The Librarian is here in order to support students and faculty in their research and instruction needs. Please fill out the forms below based on the help you require. If you have any questions on what form to fill out for your needs or how to fill out the form, please contact the Library.

For Students

Appointment with Librarian

This form is available for students to fill out to meet with the Librarian in person or virtually. Some examples of why students may want to meet with the Librarian include:

  • Research guidance
  • Instruction on citing sources
  • Assistance on evaluating sources
  • Help in navigating the website

This form is sent directly to the Librarian. The Librarian will respond back with a meeting invite that best fits both the Librarian and student's schedule.

For Faculty

  1. Library Instruction Request

The Methodist College Library is here to provide specialized instruction for your course. This form is available for faculty and instructors to fill out detailing what you're hoping the Librarian can provide for you. Options include:

  • Meet and Greet: a quick stop by your class for the Librarian to introduce themselves to your students as a resource. This would generally only be a five minute session that can happen in your classroom or with a quick stop by the Library. Promotional materials may be handed out should the Librarian have any. If you would like specific materials handed out (i.e. on a service, resource, etc. the Library offers), please let the Librarian know in the Notes section on the form and they can create them.
  • Library Instruction Session: a longer meeting with your class for the Librarian to introduce themselves and the library's services and resources. This would include navigating the website and a preliminary instruction on searching for resources on it. This is an option that would be broad for your students to learn overall how the Library works. This option would generally be a fifteen minute session that can happen in your classroom, in the Library, or as a prepared video. If you would like specific materials handed out (i.e. on a service, resource, etc. the Library offers) or specific searching, please let the Librarian know in the Notes section on the form and they can create them.
  • Full Library Session: an individualized instruction session specifically built for your needs. This would include navigating the website, searching for sources, and other necessary instruction that's geared towards either a specific assignment, lesson, or section within your course. You'll be asked to upload the assignment or other necessary materials for the Librarian to create a lesson plan.
  • Other: an option to allow you to decide if there's another way the Library can provide instruction for your class.

Each available instruction service above has three options for a "location" of those services:

  • In the Library: have the class visit the Library where the Librarian will provide the instruction.
  • In my classroom: the Librarian will visit your classroom on the date and time requested to provide the instruction.
  • Prepared video: the Librarian will prepare, record, and send a video for you to either show in your classroom or have available on your D2L page for students to access whenever they please.

This form is sent directly to the Librarian. The Librarian will then reach out with any questions and to confirm the date/time you requested instruction for.

  1. Course Reserves

The Methodist College Library's Course Reserves allows faculty and instructors to set aside books, articles, or other media for class use in the Library. Examples would include:

  • Books and articles the Library has in the collection. This would include the general collection, the reserves collection, or online. Please be sure to check the Library Catalog for copies of the books to make sure the Library has them.
  • Media the Library has available. This could include videos, study cards, kits, or other items that are not books.
  • Books and/or media you own that you would like your students to view on their time.

To access, your students would visit the front desk at the Library and request the items. They will be able to view your course reserves for two hours and will not be able to leave the Library with them. If you are providing your own material, please deliver them to the Librarian.

Please allow a minimum 48 hours to compete your request. There is a required question for you to fill out that provides the Librarian with dates on when you would like the course reserves to be available to students.

  1. Embedded Services

Faculty and Instructors have the option to embed the Methodist College Librarian into their virtual D2L course. This form is not for individualized instruction sessions. Rather, it's an option for the Librarian to be present in your virtual course as a resource for your students. Options could include:

  • Putting resources from the Library on your D2L page that could be helpful for them throughout the course. These would be for already existing guides or videos that your students can access any time. If you would like new guides or videos to be made, please say so in the notes section at the end of the form.
  • Participating in your forum by answering questions your students may have.
  • Providing easy point of contact for your students to access the Librarian quickly and easily.

This can be a simple service or more personalized based on the research that happens within the course. It provides an opportunity for the faculty to be able to collaborate more with the Librarian in research your students may find themselves doing within your course.
