Circulation Standards


•    Patrons must present their student or employee badge to check out materials.
•    Items can be renewed (when applicable) via in-person or phone (or coming soon online library account).
•    There is no general limit to the number of materials that can be checked out.

Loan Periods


General Collection and Professional Development Collection 
•    Circulation Period: 28 days, 1 renewal 
•    After 29 days overdue, the status changes from “Overdue” to “Lost.” The patron’s account is assessed a $25 overdue fee, a replacement fee (based on the price of the book) and a $25 processing fee.
•    When a patron returns a lost book, the overdue, replacement, and processing fees are cleared from their record.
•    When a patron pays for a lost item(s), the replacement and processing fees are collected but the overdue fee is waived.
•    If a book is returned damaged, the patron can be charged replacement and processing fees.


Reserve Items
•    Reserve items are items requested by faculty members to be “on reserve” instead of in the collection. This includes textbooks and other items to support the curriculum.
•    Circulation Period: varies by item, most common is 2 hours
•    2-hour reserve items circulate for in-building use only.
•    Reserve items with 24-hour circulation can be taken off-campus.
•    After 2 hours or 24 hours overdue, the status changes from "Overdue" to "Lost and the patron's account is assessed a $25 overdue fee, a replacement fee (based on the price of the item) and a $25 processing fee.
•    Replacement is the cost of the item plus a $25.00 processing fee.


Reference Materials
•    Reference materials are for in-library use only.
•    No circulation allowed unless with prior arrangement with the library director.


Journals/Newspapers (print)
•    Print journals and newspapers are for in-library use only.
•    No circulation allowed unless with prior arrangement with the library director.


DVDs
•    Circulation Period: 7 days
•    1 renewal
•    After 7 days overdue, the status changes from "Overdue" to "Lost and the patron's account is assessed a $25 overdue fee, a replacement fee (based on the price of the item) and a $25 processing fee.
•    Replacement is the cost of the item plus a $25.00 processing fee.


Interlibrary Loan

 

As an institutional member of RAILS (Reaching Across Illinois Library System) and CARLI (Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois), students and employees can request items found in the I-Share catalog. Items borrowed through the I-Share catalog are subject to the borrowing library’s circulation and interlibrary loan policies.

Methodist College is a member of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and office of the National Library of Medicine.  Through the NLM, Methodist College students and employees can request items found in DOCLINE. Methodist College will also supply items requested by borrowers through DOCLINE. Methodist College also participates in OCLC's WorldShare.

Items not found in I-Share, OCLC WorldShare or DOCLINE can be requested via the American Library Association’s Interlibrary Loan form. Methodist College will also lend items requested with the American Library Association’s Interlibrary Loan form.
