Circulation Standards

The library circulation practices will support information needs and access to resources to the College’s students, faculty, and staff as the library’s main clientele.

General

  • Patrons must present their student or employee badge to check out materials.
  • Items can be renewed (when applicable) via in-person, phone, or online library account.
  • There is no limit to the number of materials that can be checked out by one patron.
  • Interlibrary loan items will circulate with the lending library's policy.
  • Outstanding library obligations will result in a hold on the student’s account. Once an item is in “lost” status, the cost of the book and the associated fees are added to the student's ledger, creating a "hold" on the account until materials are returned or paid for. This is in accordance with the "A-098 Library Fine" policy of Methodist College.
  • Guests with library obligations will have their library access blocked and a bill will be sent to their home address.

Books (General Collection and Professional Development Collection)

  • Circulation Period: 28 days, 1 renewal
  • After 29 days overdue, the status changes from “Overdue” to “Lost ” The patron’s account is assessed a $25 overdue fee, a replacement fee (based on the price of the item) and a $25 processing fee.
  • When a patron returns a lost book, the overdue, replacement and processing fees are cleared from their record.
  • When a patron pays for a lost item(s), the replacement and processing fees are collected but the overdue fee is waived.
  • If a book is returned damaged, the patron can be charged replacement and processing fees.

Course Reserve Items

  • Faculty may request items to be placed “on reserve.” These are items that are required or recommended for a class.
